Popular parenting expert Dr Laura Markham has garnered a large and loyal readership around the world, thanks to her simple, insightful approach that values the emotional bond between parent and child. However, as any parent of more than one child knows, it’s challenging for even the most engaged parent to maintain harmony and a strong connection when competition, tempers, and irritation run high. In this highly anticipated guide, Dr Markham presents simple yet powerful ways to cut through the squabbling and foster a loving, supportive bond between siblings, while giving each child the vital connection that he or she needs.

Calm Parents, Happy Siblings presents hands-on, research-based advice on:

Creating deep connections with each one of your children, so that each truly believes that you couldn’t possibly love anyone else more.

Fostering a loving family culture that encourages laughter and minimizes fighting.

Teaching your children healthy emotional self-management and conflict resolution skills – so that they can work things out with each other, get their own needs met and respect the needs of others.

Helping your kids forge a close lifelong sibling bond, as well as the relationship skills they will need for a life of healthy friendships, work relationships, and eventually their own family bonds.

Really excellent handbook for parents and grandparents with siblings to look after. Kind and creative solutions to the age-old problems of sibling rivalry, which really work in practice, starting from straight away as soon as you try them out, to eventual successes if you persist. I just wish this advice had been available to me years ago - but it's never too late! This is my second purchase of the book - my daughter borrowed and then begged to keep my first copy!

I read this book after I read 'Calm Parents, Happy Kids'. It just makes sense and Dr Markham gives you lots of useful advice and techniques (and examples) you can put into practice straight away. There's a large section on preparing a child for a new sibling and for when the baby arrives which I skipped as my children are 2 and 3 years old however the rest of the book was relevant and very helpful. I'd highly recommend this book.

Have tried other parenting books, this was the one I've found most effective by far. Children are reacting more positively, I'm having more fun with them and enjoying being with them more, and things are not as fraught when things go wrong. Having read it, I'm now revisiting it a bit each day to keep the lessons alive as it's easy to slip back into old practices. Overall, would definitely recommend.

This and the Happy Kids versions are my favourite books, I recommend them all the time and parent this way now, my kids are way happier than I was growing up and I'm a far calmer parent than I otherwise would have been. They also get on amazingly.

(I also love How To Talk So Kids Listen and Listen So They Talk and Siblings Without Rivalry, but these ones are my favourite)

5.0 out of 5 stars This book (and it's companion book, Peaceful Parent, Happy Child) transformed and saved our family

When things were getting tough with parenting our two young sons, we sought help, and unknowingly began our journey on the road to peaceful parenting (aka attachment parenting, connection parenting, positive parenting, etc). We stumbled across Dr. Laura Markham's books and we are SO thankful we did. Her books opened our eyes to what our children truly need in order to thrive and helped us see how damaging conventional parenting can be. The books gave us practical tools to use in the heat of the moment. We shudder to think how far off track we would have gone with our son (who experiences difficulty with self-regulation) if it had not been for the Peaceful Parent books. I am so truly thankful for Dr. Laura! She helped us get through some tough years, and it's amazing now to see how much her method has helped our family. Yes, it's hard work. And we can do hard things! And yes, it takes time. But is there anything else more worthy of investment that our children? And it feels so much better to deal with daily situations using patience, kindness, and even humor, rather than anger, yelling, or an iron-fist. It's probably a bit over the top, but I'll say it anyway: the world would be a safer, kinder, healthier place if everyone used these books!
