Access your news with an Alexa Routine

Make listening to the news even easier by incorporating your customised Flash Briefing into an Alexa Routine.

Either set up a custom Routine to include your daily Flash Briefing, or enable a Featured Routine in the Alexa app such as “Alexa, start my day” or “Alexa, good morning”, to listen to your short news update as you get ready for the day.

Q. How do I start listening to News on Alexa?
A. Say “Alexa, play the news” for longer-form News or “Alexa, play Flash Briefing” for a short summary of the day’s top news. If this is your first time using either, Alexa will ask you to pick your preferred news source (choose from news.com.au, ABC News, LiSTNR News and more). You can view all News providers and change your preferred news source in the Alexa app.

Q. How do I update my News Settings such as the news source?
A. Open the Alexa app, tap More at the bottom of the screen, then select Settings. Under Alexa Preferences, choose News. To update your longer-form news settings, tap on My News Channel to change your preferred news source. To update Flash Briefing, tap on Flash Briefing. To turn off or turn on any news providers in your Flash Briefing playlist use the toggle. To add new providers tap Add Content.

Q. How do I add more news providers to Flash Briefing?
A. Open the Alexa app, tap More at the bottom of the screen, then select Settings. Under Alexa Preferences, choose News. Then tap on Flash Briefing to build your playlist. To find and add Flash Briefings, tap on Add Content. You can search for your preferred provider (like The Daily Telegraph, or The Australian). Select any item then tap Enable to Use to add it to your playlist. Tap the back button to return to your Flash Briefing settings. To change the order, tap Edit, then drag and drop to rearrange. To hear your playlist, just say, “Alexa, play Flash Briefing”.

Q. How do I get longer form news coverage to listen to?
A. To see or hear longer-form coverage from top news sources, just ask for any News Channel by name by saying something like “Alexa, play news from ABC”. You can skip any story by saying, “Alexa, next”, unless it’s a live-stream.

Q. How do I get my local news on Alexa?
A. Many local news providers are available on Alexa. Try saying, "Alexa, play news from The Herald Sun" or "Alexa, play news from The Advertiser".
