Connect your music provider

With Alexa, you can link supported music streaming services (e.g., Spotify or Apple Music) to your account and always make sure you’re streaming your favourite one by setting a default music provider.
To link a streaming service:
  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Open More and select Settings.
  3. Select Music & Podcasts, and then Link New Services.
  4. Select the music service provider and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: Amazon Music streaming services are linked automatically and do not require additional set up.
To set a default music provider:
  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Open More and select Settings.
  3. Select Music and Podcasts and then Default Services.

Stream your favourite hits

Whether you’re streaming on Spotify or rocking out to Amazon Music, Alexa can help you find your favourite artist, genre or even help you to drift off to sleep with audio on a timer.

Amazon Music Unlimited and Apple Music customers can also keep the tunes playing after making a song request. Just say, “Alexa, enable autoplay” to set up.

Listen to radio and podcasts

Stream your favourite radio station or ask Alexa to play podcasts from your choice of provider, including Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and iHeartRadio.
Try saying:

  • "Alexa, play triple j."
  • "Alexa, play Smooth FM."
  • “Alexa, play 2GB."
  • "Alexa, play Newstalk Z.B."

Group speakers for multi-room audio

Speaker groups allow you to play music, podcasts, and news on multiple Echo devices at once, providing a multi-room audio experience. In the Alexa app, you can create custom speaker groups, such as "Upstairs," "Bedrooms," or "Downstairs."

You can also just say, "Alexa, play music everywhere” and music or audio will play together on all the supported devices throughout your home.
To set up multi-room music:
  1. Open the Alexa app.
  2. Open Devices.
  3. Select Plus and then select Combine Speakers.
  4. Select Multi-room music.
  5. Follow the instructions in the app to complete the set up.
Looking to have your music move with you? You can move your music, podcasts and radio from one compatible Alexa-enabled device to another and continue listening exactly where you left off. Try saying, “Alexa, move my music here”.

FAQs

Q. How do I turn on explicit language filtering?
A: You can use the Alexa app to turn explicit filtering for songs on or off.

1. Open the Alexa app
2. Open More and select Settings
3. Select Music & Podcasts, and then Explicit Language Filter
4. Switch the feature on or off

Note: Some music services do not support explicit filtering. If the music service doesn't launch, turn off the explicit filter and try again.

Q. How do I stream different music on each of my devices?
A. You can do this by either using a different provider (e.g., Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify) on each device or the Amazon Music Unlimited Family Plan supports streaming music on up to six devices at a time.

Q. How do I play podcasts using Alexa?
A. You can play podcasts with Alexa using your voice. You can ask Alexa to play podcasts using the following voice commands:

"Alexa, play the podcast [podcast name]"
"Alexa, play the podcast [podcast name] from [podcast service name]"
"Pause." "Resume." "Next/previous (episode)."
