The #1 New York Times Bestseller

Updated with a new introduction and featuring never-before-seen photos

Jessica reveals for the first time her inner monologue and most intimate struggles. Guided by the journals she's kept since age fifteen, and brimming with her unique humor and down-to-earth humanity, Open Book is as inspiring as it is entertaining.

This was supposed to be a very different book. Five years ago, Jessica Simpson was approached to write a motivational guide to living your best life. She walked away from the offer, and nobody understood why. The truth is that she didn’t want to lie.

Jessica couldn’t be authentic with her readers if she wasn’t fully honest with herself first.

Now America’s Sweetheart, preacher’s daughter, pop phenomenon, reality tv pioneer, and the billion-dollar fashion mogul invites readers on a remarkable journey, examining a life that blessed her with the compassion to help others, but also burdened her with an almost crippling need to please. Open Book is Jessica Simpson using her voice, heart, soul, and humor to share things she’s never shared before.

First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her book shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture cliché’s — “chicken or fish,” “Daisy Duke,” "football jinx," “mom jeans,” “sexual napalm…” and more. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

Singer, songwriter, actor, entrepreneur, designer, philanthropist. Jessica Simpson is a multihyphenate and then some: a hugely talented artist, she took the music, fashion, and entertainment industries by storm to become the international media star she is today.

Born and raised outside of Dallas, Jessica began her performing career sharing the stage with famous gospel acts including Kirk Franklin, God’s Property, and Ce Ce Winans. Her unmistakable voice and unique pop sound caught the eye of legendary Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and she soon burst onto the music scene with her debut album Sweet Kisses, featuring the RIAA-certified double-platinum song, “I Wanna Love You Forever.” Jessica went on to release seven more hit-producing albums, including 2001’s Irresistible; the quadruple-platinum-album, In This Skin, featuring the Top 40 hit “Sweetest Sin”; A Public Affair; and Do You Know (2008), which marked her return to country and included the iTunes number-one-downloaded country single, “Come On Over.” Her latest album, Happy Christmas, showcased a special duet of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” which Jessica sang and recorded with naval officer, Lance Corporal John Britt from the USS Harry Truman in the Persian Gulf.

Jessica has also made her mark on the big and small screens, with turns on That 70's Show and her genre-defining MTV reality show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, as well as roles in films such as Employee of the Month, Blonde Ambition, and The Dukes of Hazzard, for which she released the certified-platinum cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Were Made For Walkin.’” On her VH-1 docuseries, Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty, Jessica traveled the globe to speak with everyday women and pop-culture icons to reveal what beauty means in cultures around the world. Most recently, she starred in NBC’s design-challenge series Fashion Star, as a mentor alongside John Varvatos and Nicole Richie.

Aside from Jessica’s entertainment prowess, she has achieved tremendous success as a designer and entrepreneur with her Jessica Simpson Collection. Launched in 2005, the collection includes more than 34 product categories, such as footwear, handbags, denim, eyewear, lingerie, jewelry, outerwear, luggage, ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, tween, maternity, athleisure, kids, home, beauty, and fragrance. To date, the collection has had the distinction of reaching the $1 billion dollar sales mark.

An enthusiastic philanthropist, Jessica serves as Operation Smile’s International Youth Ambassador. She joined the Operation Smile international medical mission in Nakuru, Kenya where she assisted the volunteer team with the medical evaluations of the more than 280 children who visited the region with the hopes of receiving life-changing corrective surgery for their facial deformities.

Jessica has been praised by fans and recognized by critics alike, with three Teen Choice Awards, two American Music Awards nominations, and two MTV Video Music Awards. She has graced the covers of many iconic magazines, such as Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, GQ, Marie Claire, Allure, and Elle; and has been named one of People’s Most Beautiful People numerous times and Us Weekly’s Style Icon of the Year.

Real, Relatable and Entertaining ... FIVE STARS*****

Whenever a celebrity comes out with a book about their life you wonder how much are they really going to share. These are people that live off their public persona, so they have to be very carful at how much and what kind of stuff they can divulge from their personal life, because those details can very well make or break their career. That's why I loved this book so much because Jessica Simpson is so brave, so honest, and so bold telling her story. She shares it all, and she makes her fans/readers part of the story. She wrote it in a way that it feels as if we are all visiting, and going back to all those moments in her life right along with her as she tells her story. The writing style is very candid, and sincere; really felt like she was putting her whole heart into this book.

I was a teenager growing up when Newlyweds was on; I was obsessed with that whole Britney, Christina Aguilera, 98 Degrees, N'Sync Era. Then when Jessica and Nick's show aired OMG, they became the it couple of the 2000's. I remember wanting to be just like Jessica, even in her ditzy blond moments, she was so funny and so happy and highly inspirational. She had it all, beautiful home, gorgeous clothes and handbags, and the most romantic and handsome husband of all times. So I made it a point to follow her career. I watched the show, all her movies, any TV specials, and I would sing her sons (badly), I also always loved and tried to imitate her fashion style.

To read this book was like coming full circle into learning about the idol I once followed. Now I'm older and a mother myself, so I wanted to read the truth about her life, her struggles. We all know what has been said about Jessica Simpson in the TV and the magazines but I wanted to learn her story from her own words, and let me tell you she did not disappoint.

The truth is she is just like any woman, any mother, any daughter, any friend. Her problems and struggles are mostly the same as any of ours are, the only difference is that she has paparazzi following her, and sharing her every moment in pictures and that perhaps she has way better and way nicer clothes and accessories than most of us. But she too had to fight for her marriage, and fight about money, and deal with toxic relationships, and self loathe and insecurities. Say what you want about Jessica Simpson but she really is an Open Book. She puts her heart and soul into everything she does, and just like I was when I was a teenager, I continue to be inspired by her.

This book was super entertaining, inspiring and even a little heartbreaking. No matter what happens in her life, or what people say about her, I am sure that Jessica Simpson will continue to sing, thrive, and will always encourage and motivate others to be the best version of themselves. Truly fantastic book.

There's so many things I want to write about this book but I'll sum it up, Jessica grew up in a devout Christian family, daughter of a pastor and a very capable and talented woman, Jessica signed her first contract at 14 yrs old as a gospel singer, she was very insecure about her body especially her breast, she was a well endowed girl and nobody let her forget it, singing in church she had to cover up with vest or something like that, which is stupid but anyway, I got a little angry at Jessica's parents, at times I felt like she was their cash cow and put a huge amount of pressure on a young girl, when nick and Jessica got married her dad sulked the whole time ,like crap, there goes my cash cow but as we all know they divorced after 3 yrs of marriage, after her divorce she acted the same way as any young girl would....she dated ,she saw what was out there. She got her heart broken a few times, one of her boyfriends did like that she drank all the time but he also jerked her around emotionally, then she started dating Tony Romo and on their first date guess who was with them, yep, her parents! I feel like they smothered her , she met her husband Eric by chance, he supposed to be set up with one of her friends but the friend couldn't make it so Jessica and eric hit it off, they were about to welcome their first child into the world very soon when Papa Joe decided he needed some attention and told her he was leaving her mother, I mean, come on Joe, you could've waited ,I found him to be incredibly selfish and a little shady. When she finally had baby Maxwell her dad shows up to her home, not to see the baby but to talk about his problems, her sweet husband told him that Jessica doesn't have anymore energy to give right now. Now back to the pressure, she had been distraught over John Mayer dumping her the day she was singing at a tribute for dolly Parton, she started drinking pretty early that day and when it was time to sing 9 to five she couldn't remember the words, she looked over at her parents asking each other what they're gonna do if this effected her career because after all she was the family meal ticket , this book was well written, easy to read, I laughed a few times at some of the situations she had gotten herself into, but the best thing about her is remaining humble and giving back to those less fortunate, Jessica has a heart of gold and deserves all the success that she has had.

This memoir was a good time read. Jessica Simpson definitely has a sense of humor with realness and a honesty that shines through .She is childish at times ,ditzy and a bit braggadocios here and there but also very endearing. She explains alot and tells her story and her family 's story of growing up and in the spotlight with a realness that is very relatable. Sure it gets a bit hokey at times but it's overall a good read. Again extremely relatable. Jessica shares everything and there were times that I actually laughed out loud. I used to watch her show when my kids were in high school and were huge Newlyweds fans , so I kind of became a fan of hers through them .She is the same girl on the show as she is now and she tells her story in the same tone ,so if you are a fan of her you will not be disappointed. I'm glad I read it, I liked her before and I think I like her more for reading this .John Mayer Iam not a fan of you !

I'm not always huge on celeb memoirs or biographies generally because they are repetitive or seem to be other-worldly/outside of a typical person's life. This one, however, I am enthralled. Maybe I identify with her. Maybe I feel I completely relate even if our demographics are different. Either way, Jessica Simpson is who she is - honest, unashamed, imperfect, and relatable. She is telling her story, linking our experiences to her own troubled ones without being preachy, and she tells it like it is. I love this. I'm not done with the book yet but I have not once found something redundant (except, ok fine, one description of Nick Lachey). I want to see what happens next. She is respectful while being truthful to those involved in her life story. The cover pages show all the other reviews from professional critics and they are spot on. This book is worth it.

Nota mil!!!!

I loved this book, totally honest and real. Shocking in places with the realities of being in the public eye and music industry etc, but you couldn't help but warm to Jessica throughout. Such a down to earth young woman who has worked so incredibly hard throughout her life. Definitely worth a read.

I don't know what I was expecting from Jessica Simpson's book, but I thought, you know, she really has gone through quite a bit even though she is still quite young and I've heard all the dumb blonde jokes about her, I was really curious about how she would write or rather, how she would tell her story and I was impressed. I really enjoyed this book. Stranger still, my husband read this book and he liked it too. He said he had no idea she had been through so much. He just knew her from the Dukes of Hazzard and was totally surprised by how much he liked it too. Worth the read definitely.
