The installer that they sent out didn't really know about tankless systems, they advertise that they are familiar with tankless systems but they really aren't. As a matter of fact, he told me that it was his understanding that these systems were less efficient because they use more gas, which isn't true. He lacked the knowledge about tankless systems. I ended up having to have another company come out for the tankless water heater. We were very specific when we called and scheduled the appointment and expected to have a technician come out that was familiar with the tankless system. Old waterheater died on a Wednesday night. Waterheaters.com was called on Thursday morning. They came and assessed the situation on Thursday afternoon. The tankless hot water heater they installed has been a godsend. For a plumber, I think that's pretty good. We’ve used Kook and Son exclusively over close to 15 years in multiple residences because of their professionalism, promptness and the quality of their work. The technicians are also trained in current equipment (tankless water heaters, high efficiency furnaces, etc) In our most recent engagement our tankless hot water heater developed a leak overnight. I called Kook around 9 am and they were able to get someone there that morning even though the techs were already at another job (great in and of itself!). The technician then worked with the manufacturer to troubleshoot and determined that the unit needed to be replaced and was under warranty. This is where Kook really shined: the manufacturer needed to review pictures of the unit, where the leak was, etc. before approving the claim and allowing us to get a replacement unit so there was no way to schedule an appointment with Kook since we didn’t know specifically when we’d get that info from the manufacturer. Kook worked with us over the two days it took getting the manufacturer the info they needed and waiting for their approval and made technicians available the minute I was emailed the return authorization. They arrived within a couple of hours with the replacement unit (again, without a previously made appointment), replaced the defective unit and had hot water up and running again in a few hours. Howard Kook, the owner, also called me personally several times to let me know they were on the case, working with their staffing to ensure someone would be available when needed, etc. since he understood that being without hot water, even briefly, is a big problem and he didn’t want us to worry that we weren’t being attended to in the background even as we waited for the return authorization to take the next step. We recently had the pleasure of hiring Dawson Mechanical to have a new Navien tankless water heater installed. This was a little more than a straightforward job since the water heater was being relocated from a utility closet to the garage which was about 20 feet away. From the time I made the first call to Dawson, I had a good feeling about this company. Dave came over within a few days on a Saturday to look the job over and give me an estimate. He is very knowledgeable and took the time to answer any questions we had. When the day came for the installation, a crew of 3 workmen arrived around 9:00 AM and did not stop until the job was finished around 5:00 PM. They did an excellent job, were very good about keeping everything clean and neat, and the workmanship was top notch. I called Petri Plumbing to service and flush out deposits built up within my tankless waterheater. Due to the in climate weather, the technician arrived after the time slot provided. The technician immediately reviewed the situation and the piping that the builder installed, was not conducive to performing a flush on the unit. He reworked the piping, to make it easier to flush the unit for future maintenance. The overall job took over 3 hours and was a bit of a process. (However, if you want to have it done correctly this is the time that you would need to allocate to this.) After the flush was complete, the technician fully tested all faucets and showers in the apartment to ensure that there was proper water flow. He also provided tips on maintaining proper water flow throughout the apartment. The technician was very professional, and honest; and took care of my hardwood floors surrounding the mechanical closet. He also was mindful to clean up after his work was complete; which you do not find many people doing when you call for service. Our 7 year old tankless water heater stopped working. I called several local plumbers and was told that tankless water heater was beyond repair and that I needed a new one -- estimates were 5K to 6K. One plumber told me that it needed a new control panel. After a week of no hot water, we were pretty desperate. I called Carmine Aumenta for an estimate. They came promptly and worked on the heater while I was at work. Carmine Jr. himself did the work and called me to say he had fixed it. It only took him about an hour! Since I only expected him to give me an estimate, I had not left money for his services. He said I could pay him the next day.
