According to a report from Jordan Schultz, the Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Hollywood Brown is expected to miss 4-6 weeks from the sternoclavicular injury he sustained in the first play of Saturday night’s preseason opener: a 26-13 road loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
#Chiefs WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is expected to miss four to six weeks with the sternoclavicular injury he suffered, per multiple sources. Opening night is three weeks from this Thursday night.

Because this injury was similar to the one suffered by former Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill on the same field during the opening game of 2019’s regular season, it was pretty easy to think that Brown might miss four weeks — just as Hill did.
Like Hill, Brown was taken to a Jacksonville hospital because the injury can be life-threatening in certain circumstances. Like Hill, it didn’t turn out to be that serious; he was released the next morning. Like Hill, Brown will not need surgery.
But as our resident injury expert Dakota Wilson so often reminds us, all injuries are different. And on Monday, Dakota’s estimate was that Brown would miss 4-6 weeks.
This is what will be needed for recovery from the injury, along with the rehab required to stabilize the sternoclavicular joint and shoulder.
So Kansas City’s new wide receiver is now expected to miss at least the first two games of the season — and maybe one or two more.
But remember: Hill was also expected to miss 4-6 weeks. After he was out for four games (and missed about half the offensive snaps in his first game back) all the Chiefs did was win their first Super Bowl in 50 years.
“I think it’s one of those deals where they just got to know it’s next-man-up mentality,” said the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy on Tuesday. “We want Hollywood to get back as soon as he can, but we’ve got to keep rolling — and we’ve got the guys to do it.”
