Kentucky Women’s Basketball in ESPN’s ‘Way-too-early top 25

With the hiring of Kenny Brooks and the roster overhaul, Kentucky WBB is in the Way-Too-Early Top 25 for ESPN

NCAA Womens Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament Semifinal - Virginia Tech vs Notre Dame David Yeazell-USA TODAY Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats needed a complete restart after Kyra Elzy went 24-39 in her final two seasons as the head coach for the team.

That is just what Mitch Barnhart did, as he hired Kenny Brooks from Virginia Tech, where he went to the Final Four in the 2022-23 season and made the NCAA Tournament in his last four seasons.

Brooks has quickly assembled a great roster, and according to ESPN’s Charlie Creme, he now has Kentucky in his ‘Way-Too-Early Top 25’ rankings for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Creme has Kentucky at No. 25 in his rankings, and his reasoning behind it is how new and improved the roster is.

“The entire program has been revamped with the hiring of Brooks as head coach, nine transfers leaving, and three more coming in,” Creme says. “Having Georgia Amoore along with him from Virginia Tech gives Brooks the opportunity to compete in his first year in the SEC.”

Out of the new roster, Kentucky only kept three of its players, with two returning from the team and one coming in as a high school recruit. The other players came from Brooks’ time at Virginia Tech or the transfer portal.

Brooks now has 11 players on his roster, and he could still add another player or two to finish the roster At this time, the team is ready to compete in the SEC and hopefully for the SEC and NCAA titles in years to come.
