Gov. Hochul hints at upcoming changes to MTA mask requirement

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday hinted at a possible update to New York’s public transportation mask mandate during a transit announcement at Penn Station.

“With respect to masks, it’s absolutely in conversation right now and we’ll be making some announcements on that very shortly,” Hochul said.

Mask mandates were put in place in April 2020 and then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo implemented a $50 fine for mask non-compliance in September 2020 although MTA stats show that few tickets were issued.

Previously, Hochul said a "conversation" about lifting New York’s remaining mask requirement but maintained that it was too soon for a change to happen.
