Nico Hoerner: It's 'really remarkable' how Pete Crow-Armstrong impacts games

(670 The Score) Just like Cubs fans, teammates of rookie outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong continue to marvel at how he affects games in a variety of ways.

The speedy Crow-Armstrong has been a tremendous defender and dangerous baserunner since he entered the big leagues, and his bat has improved significantly in the second half of the season. Crow-Armstrong hit .314 with four homers, 17 RBIs and a .933 OPS in August, and he’s 3-of-7 in the first two games of Septmeber.

“Pete’s just so dynamic,” Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner said Tuesday in an interview with Matt Spiegel and Dan Wiederer on 670 The Score. “The play last night to beat that ball out to second to then give Ian (Happ) the chance to drive in two runs was like, those moments, I don’t know how you quantify them. With all the numbers and everything these days, just the way he impacts the game every single day – even if he doesn’t get a hit – is really remarkable.”

Hoerner sees stardom in the 22-year-old Crow-Armstrong’s future.

“There’s no reason to put any kind of ceiling on his game,” Hoerner said. “You’ve seen him hit upper-deck homers. He’s going to hit oppo homers at Wrigley. He’s going to steal 40 bases all the time in the big leagues with Gold Glove defense. That’s just a skill set that you can count the players on one hand that can do that in the big leagues right now. It’s not something you see every day. I’m really excited to see how he’s handled it all mentally and his commitment to winning. It’s a lot of fun.”

Crow-Armstrong is hitting .235 with seven homers, 37 RBIs, a .675 OPS and 26 stolen bases in 99 games in 2024.
