Astros rally against Mets for largest comeback of the season

The Astros scored three times in the eighth inning after four walks and a hit to complete their biggest rally of the season Saturday afternoon. They beat the Mets 9-6 at Citi Field to crawl back to .500.

Alex Bregman, whose costly error helped the Mets win the day before, delivered a two-out, two-run single to put Houston ahead in the eighth after trailing by five runs in the third.

The Astros chipped away. A two-RBI double by Jeremy Peña in the fourth inning cut the Mets' lead to 6-3. Then Jon Singleton singled on a line drive to left field to score Peña.

Suddenly, the Astros were back in business. A wild pitch in the eighth by New York's Reed Garrett allowed Jake Meyers to score, Peña to advance to third base and Trey Cabbage to second.

That's when Bregman came through with the line drive single to right field. Mauricio Dubon also hit a two-RBI double to put the finishing touches on Houston's comeback.

Since the Astros only have four starters on the 40-man roster, Shawn Dubin (1-1, 5.64 ERA) will get his first start of the season Sunday in the rubber match. Luis Severino (5-2, 3.29 ERA) will start for the Mets.
