Texans GM Nick Caserio on Deshaun Watson: 'As we get closer to training camp, we'll try to make best decision'

(SportsRadio 610) -- Texans general manager Nick Caserio said he did not have anything to add in trying to clarify the uncertainty surrounding Deshaun Watson's future.

The quarterback has asked to be traded, and the Texans have gone near-silent about whether they would still like to keep Watson after 22 lawsuits alleging sexual harassment or assault were filed against him this spring.

Caserio, fresh off organized training activities and with a little more than a month until training camp, joined Payne and Pendergast exclusively Monday morning to discuss a number of topics: whether Tyrod Taylor is the new leader on offense; how the defensive line might look under Lovie Smith's 4-3 defensive scheme; and Watson.

"I think we're taking it one day at a time," Caserio said when asked if the Texans' locker room has been addressed on how to handle the Watson situation publicly. "Really, control the things that we can control. I think the players have been focused on their attitude and their approach in the building. And they've handled everything, I would say very well. So again, we'll take it one day at a time.

"I think we're respectful of what's happening. We're respectful of the process and everybody that's involved. The most important thing is for all of us -- our coaches and players, myself included -- is to focus on the things we can control. As we get more information, as we get closer to training camp, then we'll try to make the best decision for the Houston Texans, whatever that entails."

The Texans canceled their mandatory minicamp, which would've taken place this week. The decision was made after an agreement between coaches and players that well-attended voluntary workouts would cancel out minicamp.

It also meant Watson and the Texans were not faced with the awkward confrontation of him being contractually obligated to be there for the first time since his trade request and developing legal entanglement.

There has been radio silence on the legal front for more than a month, and teams are still reportedly interested in trading for Watson.

What a track package might look like at this point remains to be seen.
