Boomer: Giants would have had to move Daniel Jones if they were able to move up in draft

As Offseason Hard Knocks teased next week’s episode being focused on the draft and the Giants’ attempt to trade up and get their next quarterback, Boomer says Big Blue came that close to having to part ways with Daniel Jones.

“It’s gonna be a tough year anyway. There are gonna be a lot of eyeballs on him,” Boomer said. “But had they been able to move up in the draft, it would have just been miserable. It would have been horrific.

“If they would have gotten Jayden Daniels, the fans would have been all over them to play that kid. It would have been untenable for Daniel Jones. They would have had to move Daniel Jones, I would think…they wouldn’t have been able to coexist.”

The Giants have say in what gets shown on the HBO series, so Boomer wonders if some of the quarterback/draft content was intentionally left in, not just for entertainment value, but as a means to motivate Jones as he works his way back from a down year that ended in ACL surgery.

“I can’t even fathom what that would have looked like had they made the trade,” Boomer said. “I would have advocated for them moving Daniel Jones.

“Maybe he comes back stronger for all of it. I think maybe this is all fodder to get a fire under him a bit…great guy, awesome person, probably highly respected in the locker room, but maybe not exactly what Schoen and Daboll really want at the quarterback position in terms of personality types.”
