Keith: Struggling Yankees making fans question a lot about what team can do this season

The Yankees returned home to a 5-4 loss to the Reds on Tuesday night, and Keith continued to see some troubling signs up and down the roster, including Luis Gil, who got off to a strong start before struggling with command and continuing a trend of rough outings since early June.

“It seems like teams have figured him out,” Keith said. “It seems like he’s hit a rookie wall, and needs to figure out some things about how to pitch.

“That’s a Yankee team with too little, too late. They were not ready for the moment.”

The lineup is currently littered with hitters who are struggling, especially Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo, while Giancarlo Stanton’s absence in the middle of the lineup is being felt in a bad way. Keith says a lot needs to change in the Bronx, or this team will go by the way of many of its predecessors.

“They’re struggling. At the top of the order, young Volpe is struggling. Alex Verdugo is in a bad one,” Keith said. “For him to be the cleanup hitter, it’s not good enough.

“I don’t know if the trade deadline can save this team. I don’t know if Juan Soto’s hand is hurt. I’m in the Stadium questioning all kinds of things.”
