Dr. Nashaat spent his early youth in East Lansing, Michigan, before his family returned to Iraq and lived in Baghdad. When he is not working, he enjoys playing with his two German shepherds, taking them on walks and trail adventures. Dr. Nashaat is an avid long-distance cyclist, riding whenever possible. He enjoys playing chess, salsa dancing, swimming, cooking, traveling, and exploring new places. Being relatively new to Central Texas, Dr. Nashaat looks forward to exploring the community.

Growing up, I wanted to become a police officer, but I chose a career in medicine in order to help people after my mother developed a severe illness. Then I witnessed first-hand how important it is to receive good and compassionate care, and the positive effect that could have on patients and their families in easing their tension and suffering during difficult illness. I believe all patients deserve equal care and respect regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, social status, or any other factors. We, as providers, owe it to the patients to provide them with all the information needed to the best of our capabilities, to help them be an active part in their healthcare decision-making. We should always function as partners.

    Very pleased with my visit

It was good to catch up and arrange for some additional work to be done.

I had my first visit (a physical) with Dr. Nashaat. At the end of the visit, he surprised be my asking what I was doing to lose weight. Since my weight doesn’t currently have a negative effect on my health (I am luckily in good health), I wasn’t sure this was necessary. I was concerned about this because of how common eating disorders are in America (they’re the most common mental health disease) and because of the number of studies that show that fat folks will avoid receiving care from doctors because they don’t want conflict related to their weight. It was also concerning that this attention to my weight was based only off of my BMI (a famously unreliable tool for gaging someone’s health) as neither my activity levels, my diet, or any other factor that could contribute to my weight were brought up. Of course, if my weight was impacting my health it would be more than appropriate to discuss, but because it isn’t I felt that his comment was more likely to do harm than good. Other than this comment, his care was excellent.
