Arizona Diamondbacks: July confidence poll

After a winning June, feeling any better?

June results

Every bit as ugly as expected, with a losing record in May, and the team apparently seriously in danger of going into a tailspin, dropping five of their final six games, including a series loss at home to the weak Marlins, and then being swept over a World Series rematch in Texas. With injuries piling up, it seemed like the hits just kept on coming. Especially when Jordan Montgomery was on the mound, hohoho. For the rotation as a whole went 6-11 with a 5.39 ERA on the month, and it looked as if the team would once again follow up a post-season appearance with an underwhelming campaign the next year. This was very much reflected in the end of May results.

  • 1% - 9 (very, very, VERY confident)

The upper tier has basically vanished with only 4% going above a 6 in their confidence. On Opening Day, just two months previously, ninety-two percent were in those categories, a stark proof that fan confidence is as fragile as a butterfly. The poll average dropped more than a full point, going down from 4.50 to 3.41. That’s the lowest it has been since the start of August 2022, when the Diamondbacks were 45-56. It’s also the lowest early June figure since the dismal days of 2021, when it was below two for three consecutive months, as Arizona flirted with a franchise-worst season. I don’t think we’re quite in that state now, so there’s that!

Below, you can see the breakdown for the past 12 polls’ results, followed by the line graph showing the trends over this and previous seasons.

July poll

It may not necessarily feel like it, but the D-backs have had their best month of the season so far in June. They have dipped in and out of a wild-card spot, though it is true to say that the schedule certainly helped them, and there’s an argument they should have picked up a few more wins. The injury situation remained in flux: we got Geraldo Perdomo back, but lost Gabriel Moreno, whole Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez don’t show any signs of returning to the rotation any time immediately. It feels like this team has a ten-game streak in them somewhere. Harder to say if it will be a winning or a losing one, however...

That would be what the poll is for. As ever, feel free to explain your choice in the comments, especially if it has changed from the previous one.
