Basketball

* High school division boys — Matt Mathias scored a season-high 36 points to lead the Rockets past the Lakers, 80-60, in the Sandymount League. The Rockets (5-0), who lead the league by two games, had four players in double figures.

Mike Swain had 11 points and Kirby Smith and Mike O’Dell each added 10 points for the Rockets.

Matt Gill notched a season-best 16 points for the Lakers (2-3), who were attempting to extend their two-game winning streak and break the .500 mark for the first time. The Lakers’ Mike Fenlon produced 14 points and Brian Beninchove had 11 points.

Behind a season-high 22 points from Ben Berchock, the Spurs topped the Bullets, 51-37. The Spurs (3-2) have won their last two games.

The Bullets (0-5) were led by Ryan Trent, who totaled 14 points. Shawn Colleran added nine points for the Bullets, who registered their lowest point total of the season.

David Sinclair’s 10 points helped the Bulls to a 39-32 victory over the Celtics. Jason Blankenship had nine points for the Bulls (3-2).

Brandon Scobie tallied 10 points for the Celtics (2-3), who dropped their third straight game.

* Men’s League — Terry Barnes supplied 22 points as Eldersburg Pools downed Red Dogs, 68-57, in a Monday B Division game. Brian Knight netted 16 points for Red Dogs (2-3), which has lost three of its past four games.

With the win, Eldersburg (5-0) held its one-game lead over Random House (4-1).

Random House rebounded from last week’s loss to Eldersburg with a 70-60 victory over Ski’s. Randy Walking scored 17 points for Random House.

Tim Nee netted 25 points for Ski’s (2-3), which had won its last two games.

Kevin Welsh had 11 points to move Gallagher Pools over Marada, 64-49.

The victory stopped a three-game skid for Gallagher Pools (2-3). Steve Kreimer contributed 16 points for Marada (0-5).

With Scott Thompson’s 24 points, Champs defeated Four Seasons, 74-60, for its third consecutive victory in the Tuesday B Division. Champs (4-1) leads three teams by a single game for first place in the league.

Four Seasons (2-3), which has lost three straight games by an average of 16 points, was led by Bill Butz (20 points).

Dave Macharsky scored 22 points to lead Hoosiers over Sturgill & Associates, 75-59. The Hoosiers (3-2) have their first winning record this season.

Zack Flynn and Scott Tobias each had 18 points for Sturgill & Associates (3-2), which fell out of a first-place tie with Champs after winning three in a row.

George Sinnett produced 24 points in leading Vee’s Tees (3-2) past Enfuegos, 86-48. Jason Barnes had 17 points for Enfuegos (0-5).

Ed Nevins and Barry Angravi each scored 19 points as Action Refrigeration upset league-leading Wilson’s Sports, 69-57, in a Wednesday A Division matchup. Action Refrigeration (3-2) has won three consecutive games after starting the season 0-2.

Courtland Thomas had 14 points for Wilson’s Sports (4-1), which had its lead over Action Refrigeration and Now & Then Antiques cut to one game.

With 27 points from Eric Watkinson, Loafers Bar & Grill (2-3) toppled Willow Oak, 98-74. Willow Oak (1-4) received 25 points from Ryan Benson.

* Over-30 men’s league — Normandy Heath & Fitness Center claimed sole possession of first place with a 81-68 win over Glass & Mirror.

Jeff Stone and Kevin Knisley had 24 points apiece for Normandy (5-0). Rick Spring contributed 19 points for Glass & Mirror (3-2).

Jim Hursey had 23 points to push Eckenrode Insurance (2-3) to a 81-49 win over Faded Skills. Russell Baker powered in 14 points for Faded Skills (0-5).

Keith Lippy’s 34 points lifted Lippy Brothers (1-4) over Westminster Bank, 89-85, for their first win of the season. Cliff McQuigg had 26 points for Westminster (3-2).

Wrestling

* The Warriors recently toppled two county rivals, defeating the Westminster Mat Rats, 66-22, and the Francis Scott Key Junior Eagles, 75-14.

Mike Muller (122 pounds), who won by a 17-9 major decision, was selected as the outstanding wrestler.

Winners by pin for the Warriors were: Michael Hughes (60), Kellen Weber (65), Matt Elder (70), Dan Patterson (75), Kevin Clark (90), Jared Zilmer (107), Jason Hamper (140), Ryan Taylor (150) and Andy Seal (130).

Other winners for the Warriors were Mark Richard (80), who took a 13-5 decision, and Bryan Hamper (85), who won 12-0.

Bryan Hamper was selected as the most outstanding wrestler in the Francis Scott Key dual meet with his 4-2 decision win.

Warriors who won by pin against the Junior Eagles were Dan Gilliam (55), Hughes, Weber, Richard, Brad Mann (115) and Seal.

Manchester claimed four individual titles at the Spring Grove (Pa.) Tournament.

Geoff Leeper (midget, 60), Tyler Graham (junior, 65), Fran Jackson (junior, 80) and Clint Day (intermediate, 105) won their weight classes.

Seth Knights (bantam, 55), Patrick Maloff (midget, 55) and Matt Myers (intermediate, 115) were runners-up.

Manchester also crushed Baltimore Westside, 78-10, in a recent dual meet.

Graham (65), Tony Watson (70), Jason Fitzgerald (95), Tim Myers (100), Jimmy Zentz (115) and Fred Aguilar (140) all won by pins for Manchester.

Maloff (55) won by a 16-0 decision, Jackson (85) took a 15-3 victory and Wyatt Deiaco (107) claimed a 9-6 decision.

Indoor soccer

* 16-and-under girls — With two goals and an assist by Shanna Ziegenfuss, the Freedom Rockets blasted Western Howard County #1, 9-3, at the Super Sports Indoor Arena in Eldersburg. The Rockets (5-0), who never trailed in the game, clinched first place in the division.

Jen Coulson tallied two goals and Ziegenfuss added another to put Freedom ahead 3-0. After Western Howard climbed to within 3-2, the Rockets scored six of the last seven goals.

Pam Seymer and Katie Keleva each played goalkeeper for a half and also contributed a goal.

Gymnastics

* Perna Gymnastics received three second-place finishes in a recent home meet.

In the 12-13 age group of Level 8, Becky Fuhrman placed runner-up with an all-around score of 33.70. She was first on the vault (8.80) and second on the bars (8.15), beam (7.75) and floor exercise (9.00).

Competing in the 14-and-over age group of Level 8, Michele Winebrunner took second with a score of 32.40. She won the floor exercise with a score of 8.70.

Shannon Wright received an all-around score of 32.20 for second place at Level 9. She was second on the floor exercise (8.80) and third on the vault (8.45), bars (7.60) and beam (7.35).
