Craig Crenshaw, 79, a retired physicist and chief scientist of the Army Materiel Command for 12 years, died of a heart attack March 22 at his home in McLean, Va. He was a civilian scientist for the Army beginning in 1942 and served as chief scientist for the Army Materiel Command from 1962 until his retirement in 1974.
He specialized in acoustic detection and worked as a trouble-shooter on several atomic projects, his family said.
Vrginia Donaldson, 74, press agent for the New York City Ballet from 1966 to 1982, died of heart failure Wednesday at her home in Chicago. She worked with City Ballet during the years of some of its greatest triumphs, helping to create press campaigns for the Stravinsky Festivals of 1972 and 1982, the Ravel Festival of 1979 and the Tchaikovsky Festival of 1981.
Peter Popovich, 75, a former Minnesota Supreme Court chief justice who won national recognition for establishing the only intermediate court of appeals in the nation with no backlog, died Friday in St. Paul, Minn. He was hospitalized March 21 with internal bleeding. When giving speeches and making public appearances, he would tell citizens and judges that swift court action is essential to deterring crime and helping people resolve conflicts.
