A Westminster man was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license after his pickup truck spun out of control on Route 140 Tuesday evening and collided with a Reese Fire Company rescue truck that was responding to a three-car accident, state police said.
Timothy Robert Smith, 29, of the 200 block of E. Green St. was released after being charged, Trooper A. A. Eways of the Westminster barracks said yesterday.
The five volunteers in the truck were uninjured in the 6: 30 p.m. accident.
Reese Fire Chief Marion A. Davidson Jr. praised the driver, Robert Ellsworth Alexander, 62, who maintained control of the truck, which was traveling about 50 mph when it was struck.
The accident toward which the rescue truck was heading, on Dede Road at Route 140 in Finksburg, was handled by a backup engine that was on the road, Chief Davidson said. A 19-year-old Westminster woman who was injured in that accident was taken to Carroll County General Hospital.
