The Maryland Historical Society will help celebrate the 1996 Maryland Hunt Cup with a show that evokes races past.
The exhibition, called “The Thrill of Excellence: Selected Fine Arts from the National Museum of Racing,” will be on loan to the Maryland Historical Society from the National Museum of Racing in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., starting later this month.
The two dozen paintings and drawings from the early 19th to mid-20th centuries will be on exhibit from Saturday, April 27, through September.
To kick off the exhibit, the Maryland Historical Society will present a “Night of Champions” on April 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., which will honor sportscaster Jim McKay.
The Historical Society also will pay tribute to Maryland-bred champion horses Broad Bush and Cigar. Event tickets are $50.
Alex Brown Capital Advisory & Trust Co. and Sotheby’s will co-sponsor the 1996 Maryland Hunt Club luncheon on April 27 at 1 p.m. under a tent at the race course in Worthington Valley.
A raffle will include a prize of tickets for two at the Wimbledon tennis match, including airfare and hotel accommodations. Raffle tickets are $50.
The Maryland Historical Society is at 201 W. Monument St. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. The library closes at 4: 30 p.m. Admission is $4; $3 for seniors and children 12-18; under 12 free. On Saturdays, admission is free until 11 a.m.
