Services expanding
Hospice of the Chesapeake is known for its compassionate, professional care of county residents diagnosed with an illness that limits their lives to six months or less. The hospice makes it possible for patients to spend their last weeks and months where they want to be: at home.
The hospice has always been licensed to offer home care services, but now it is launching a new program to help people with life-limiting illnesses. The program is called Bridges Supportive Home Care.
The program offers patients the same interdisciplinary care that is the hallmark of hospice care — nursing visits, social work services, home health aide services, counseling, volunteer services, specialized therapies and follow-up bereavement care — while they receive aggressive treatments aimed at a cure.
Referrals to the program can be made by physicians, hospitals, family members or friends.

Among the many free bereavement programs at its Millersville headquarters, Hospice of the Chesapeake will offer a two-hour seminar from 10 a.m. to noon on May 4 dealing with the loss of a child and methods of coping.
A six-week support group for adults grieving for a loved one will be held from 7 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. each Tuesday from May 7 through June 11.
A support group for adults who have lost a loved one to suicide will meet at 7: 30 p.m. the second Monday of May, June, July and August.
A primary care-giver group for those caring for a sick or terminally ill loved one meets from 7: 30 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. the third Monday of each month.

Crafts and plants
More than 25 artisans will display their work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Martin’s in the Field Episcopal Church craft and plant sale.
You may select a hanging basket or plant for Mother’s Day, choose some baked goods or stop for lunch.

Campus visit
Anyone who is considering Anne Arundel Community College will want to attend the spring campus visit from 9: 30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Speakers will discuss the college’s 34 associate degree programs and 28 certificate degree programs. Participants will hear about student life, academic advising, financial aid and registration, and will tour the campus.

Homes and gardens
The waterfront community of Herald Harbor will be showing off its homes and gardens from noon to 6 p.m. May 5.
Visitors should park at the community center and take the free transportation to the 15 new and restored homes on display.
Refreshments will be served.

Dine and dance
For $21, you can dine and dance from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. May 11 at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company Shrimp Feast.
