Friends of Haviland Mill Road have questions [Clarksville]

Author
UPDATED:

Friends of Haviland Mill Road believe their objection to a development on the O’Keefe/Crawford farmland is more than a “not in my backyard” movement. They believe there are important historical and environmental issues at stake.

Last month, the group met with engineers for Elm Street Developers and members said they left with questions about perc tests, septic systems and wetlands.

Development in the Clarksville area (often referred to as “progress”) seems inevitable. Things have changed rapidly. Not long ago the Haviland family lived on the land surrounding the historic mill. Our family knew them. Now they’ve all died and are buried nearby.

It is the hope of the Friends of Haviland Mill Road that this land will become part of the parcels being collected for a wildlife preserve along the Patuxent River. They urge you to go to www.havilandmill.com. Decide for yourself if this is an opportunity for more development to benefit the few or one more time to squander the opportunity to create something of lasting value for all.
