“Sgt. Booker Gets Grant For Program

“Sergeant Leaston V. Booker of the Maryland State Police has received a grant through the Law Enforcement Assistance Act to attend the 1970-71 Traffic Police Administration Training Program at the Traffic Institute, Northwestern University.

“Sergeant Booker was appointed to the State Police in July of 1957. At the completion of his basic training course he was assigned to the Waterloo Barracks.”

“National Guard Major Harold L. Ramsburg, whose wife, Jessie, lives at Rover Mill Road, West Friendship, completed Phase X of the command and general staff officer course at the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. Aug 1.”

“Reception for Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Miller: A reception was held in the Oella Community Hall on Saturday evening September 14, in honor of the marriage of Elijah A. Miller of Nine Mile Hill and Miss Nina L. Reeder, of Baltimore.”

“Ray – Shipley Nuptials in Sykesville Church: Miss Ethel Margaret Shipley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shipley, of Alpha, and Mr. Alvin Ray, of Severn, Md. were married in St. Paul’s Church, Sykesville, last Saturday, September 14 by the Rev. C. H. Richmond of Towson, Rev. Karl B. Justus, of Sykesville assisted with the ceremony.

“The church was beautifully decorated with palms, white flowers and candles. Miss Shipley was given in marriage by her uncle. F. B. Gallion, Marriottsville, and was attended by Mrs. W. J. Elliott, cousin of the bride, as matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Nelson Frank, Mrs. Ridgley Jones, Miss Margaret Shipley and Miss Dorothy Peddicord. Miss Patsy Elliott was flower girl.”

“Carnegie Will Give Pipe Organ: A Notable Day in the Presbyterian Church at Ellicott City

“The Presbyterian Church of Ellicott City has been making strides in the last few years. Five years ago the membership was sixty-five, and today it is 243. Sunday was a red letter day with them. The Pastor announced that Mr. Carnegie would give one half of the price of the pipe organ soon to be installed in the organ alcove of the church.”

“Services will be held at the Calvary Lutheran Church here on Sunday morning, sept. 19th at 11 A.M. Preaching by the pastor, Rev. Bauchman.

Mr. Frank Evans left on Monday to attend Saddlers business College in Baltimore.

Dr. Edward B. Cronk left on Tuesday of last week for San Francisco where he will spend some time visiting the Exposition.”
