U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced that the next prescription take-back day will be held Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

People can drop off unwanted or unneeded drugs in boxes at any local police district office in Baltimore City and at many county and state police offices around the state. People looking for a location can search on the DEA site.

Take-back events are held annually by the DEA in communities around the nation as a means of keeping the drugs off the streets, out of the waste system and out of the hands of potential abusers.

Last year, more than 8,000 pounds of medications were collected from around the state.

Some communities, including Baltimore City, are hoping to launch a permeant take-back program.
