Eastern Tech quarterback Brandon Thomas doesn’t have a chance to throw the ball much in the Mavericks’ run-oriented offense, but Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, he showed off his accuracy, completing both passes as he and receivers Jonah Simon and Riley Hodge won the first Ravens’ High School QB Challenge of the season.

In a halftime showdown with Catonsville quarterback Danny Terzi in which each quarterback throws two passes and the longest completion wins, Thomas connected on both of his attempts, the longest for 39 yards to Simon. His first pass went for 30 yards to Hodge.

Terzi could not connect on either of his passes, aiming for Jamal Johnson and Zaire Crosby.

The Mavericks and the Comets, who do not play each other during the regular season, rank among Baltimore County’s top teams. No. 9 Eastern Tech is 4-0 while the Comets are 3-1 with their only loss to No. 4 and defending Class 3A state champion Franklin.

Thomas, who threw for three touchdowns in Friday’s 58-6 win over Loch Raven, is 11-for-19 for 140 yards and four touchdowns this fall for a team that has run 144 times for more than 1,000 yards. Simon and Hodge have been targeted only a combined seven times and caught one pass each. Hodge’s was a touchdown in the Loch Raven game.

For their victory, the three Mavericks received $250 College Savings Plan of Maryland accounts and Eastern Tech got a $500 Under Armour gift card for its athletic department. Thomas and Terzi each received a football autographed by one of the Ravens.

There will be a QB Challenge at halftime of every Ravens’ home game with the next one featuring Loyola vs. John Carroll on Oct. 11 when the Ravens play the Browns. There is no season winner, just a winner each week.

Following is the schedule for the rest of the season:

Nov. 1: Tuscarora vs. Linganore

Nov. 15: Aberdeen vs. Havre de Grace

Nov. 22: Marriotts Ridge vs. Long Reach

Dec. 13: Carver vs. Mervo

Dec. 20: Broadneck vs. Meade

Dec. 27: Winters Mill vs. Francis Scott Key
