Fire personnel battled tough terrain Sunday to get to a bicyclist at the Bacon Ridge trail in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County Fire Lt. Erik Kornmeyer said.

Fire was called to the Bacon Ridge Natural Area on Hawkins Road around noon for a 36-year-old man who had been injured while biking on the trail, Kornmeyer said.

Due to the steep hills of the park and rough terrain on the trail, it took about three hours and assistance from Howard County, Annapolis Fire and Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Fire to locate, stabilize and move the patient, Kornmeyer said.

Fire personnel walked about two and a half miles and used all-terrain vehicles from Annapolis and Riviera to reach the bicyclist, Kornmeyer said. While the Anne Arundel special operations unit was assisting at the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim at the time of the call, Howard County’s special operations unit was dispatched.

The patent was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, Kornmeyer said.
