UPDATED:

Two men died and eight other people were injured in shootings in Baltimore over the weekend, police said.

The first homicide, which ended nearly a week free of killings, occurred at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Germania Ave. in Darley Park, police said.

The victim, 38-year-old Dwayne Cheeks of the 1600 block of Darley Ave. in Darley Park , suffered gunshot wounds to the head and torso, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The killing broke a six-day streak without a killing in Baltimore. It was the fifth so far this month. Last June, 24 people were killed, a less-violent total compared to other months in 2017. Thirty-eight killings were reported in May 2017 and 20 were reported in May of this year.

Around 7:23 p.m., two men were shot in the 2800 block of Boarman Ave. in Northwest Baltimore. One victim, a 52-year-old man, was shot in the leg. The other victim, 34-year-old Craig McDonald, of the unit block of Gorman Ave. was fatally shot in the head, according to police.

Three of the weekend’s nonfatal shooting victims were shot on the same block in Cherry Hill, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm and chest, a 19-year-old woman was shot in the ankle and a 27-year-old woman was shot in the mouth just before 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Bethune Road, police said.

The teens arrived at an area hospital around the same time officers found the 27-year-old injured at the scene, police said. Their names and conditions were not released.

At about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, a man was shot in the mouth in the 4100 block of Grace Court in Curtis Bay, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said. His name was not released.

Another man was shot in the leg and chest just after 10 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of N. Carey St. in Sandtown-Winchester in West Baltimore, police said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. His name and condition were not released.

Nearly a half-hour later, officers responded to a car crash in the 3300 block of Westerwald Ave. in Waverly, where they found the driver had been shot in his upper body. They determined he’d been shot in the 700 block of E. 34th St. nearby and fled the scene in the car before crashing.

He was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Police said another man was shot in the leg in the 3400 block of Edmondson Ave. in West Baltimore shortly before midnight Friday. The 21-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.

Police did not release any suspect information in any of the shootings.
