The 140th Clarksville Picnic is almost upon us. It takes place on the grounds of St. Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville on June 30. The grounds open at 9 a.m., the dinner tent is open from noon until 6:30 p.m. and festivities continue throughout the day until 8 p.m.

There are games of chance, a dunking booth, food stands and bingo, just to name a few things. The white elephant is open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and don’t miss the holiday shop where you can pick up all kinds of seasonal decorations and knick-knacks for a pittance! Hope to see you there!

Congratulations to the Lime Kiln Middle School students who ROAR-ed during the week of May 25 by being responsible, respectful and academically focused: Aiden Carter, Taylor Lavis, Ellis Harris, Courtney Johnson, Jessica Rothermel, Mehar Sandhu, Lauren Satola, Sienna Olin, and Alexandra Orris-Pope. For the week ending June 1, the ROAR students are: Anthony Mydlarz, Peyton Kittelberger, Bryce Smart, Kaylee Ritter, Zahra Shafiq, Andrew Sobhani, Cameron Olin and Kathryn Wieber.

Caroline Kulp, the administrative assistant in the office of the University of Maryland Extension- Howard County, has sent out some interesting seminar announcements over the years. For example, there was the seminar on how to attract bats to your yard. Another was about everything you would need to know if you were interested in bee keeping. The latest is titled “Living Architecture: The Green Roof.”

Given by Master Gardener Barbara Schmeckpeper, you will learn about how plants on your roof act as insulation while providing “environmental and personal benefits.” She will “explain the benefits, structure, design, plant selection and maintenance of a green roof.” You may even find the information “enticing enough to have one for your own home.” The presentation takes place at the Savage Branch, 9525 Durness Lane, on June 28, starting a 7 p.m. You can register for the event online at hclibrary.org or by phone 410- 313-0760.

Finally, congratulations to the graduating seniors at Reservoir, Atholton and River Hill high schools. Good luck as you start your next great adventure.
