A Hanover man surrendered to police Thursday afternoon in Hanover after firing several gunshots inside his home.

Officers were called to the house in the 7400 block of Locust Drive at 9:45 a.m., where a family member of the 38-year-old man told police he was in a suicidal state and had access to guns, a police spokesman said.

Officers set up a perimeter outside the home but could not get the man to come outside. The Quick Response Team, a special weapons and tactics unit, was called to the home. As officers were talking to the man on the phone, he fired several gunshots inside, the statement said.

He continued talking to officers after the shots were fired, and finally came outside at 1:45 p.m.

Police said he is at a local hospital. No charges have been filed, but the incident is under investigation.
