Festival for animal lovers set for June 23 in Hampstead

This weekend’s entertainment is not just for lovers of music, food and drink, but also for animal lovers, as a festival known as Woofstock comes to Ruhlman Brewery for the third time on Saturday.

But first, on Thursday, Celtic guitar god Robin Bullock will be playing at Baldwin’s Station in Sykesville.

The Humane Society of Carroll County is hosting the third annual Woofstock from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Ruhlman Brewery.

The family event will include various events, live music, food and games; and a vendor fair from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. General admission is $10 per person and free for those 13 and younger. All the proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Carroll County Spay and Neuter Fund.

Last year, they had more than 500 people in attendance.

In addition, there will be goat yoga, Jack Russell races, and other animal-related demonstrations. Participants can enjoy food, games, brewery tours and tastings. Ruhlman Brewery is donating the space to the HSCC for the event.

Robin Bullock

Robin Bullock and his guitar stylings will be at Baldwin’s Station on Thursday, June 21. While the show time is 8 p.m., the concert room opens for seating and dining at 6:30.

Bullock’s guitar prowess was called “Breathtaking,” by Guitar Player, with “brilliant technique, always in service of the music.”

Originally rising to prominence as a founding member of the innovative acoustic world-music trio Helicon, Bullock’s solo career has won him three Washington Area Music Association WAMMIE Awards, a Governor’s Award from the Maryland State Arts Council, and a feature broadcast on National Public Radio’s hugely popular Celtic music program “The Thistle and Shamrock.”

Looking ahead

Free family movie

Carroll Arts Center, in Westminster, will screen a free family movie all summer long. The series began on Tuesday, June 19.

The movies will play on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. The next one, on June 26, is the reimagining of a beloved family movie: “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”

Other future free family movies include: “Coco” on July 3, “The Sound of Music” on July 10, “Ferdinand” on July 17, “The Princess Bride” on July 24, “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” on July 31 and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” on Aug. 7.
