Three Aberdeen pitchers lead IronBirds to shutout in New York

Solid pitching propelled the Aberdeen IronBirds to second straight win Friday on the road in New York.

Three IronBirds pitchers shut the Yankees out on three hits in an 2-0 New York-Penn League win in Staten Island.

The series concludes today (Saturday) with a 7 p.m. start. Aberdeen (4-4) will be back home Sunday to begin a brief homestand against the Vermont Expos. Game time Sunday is 4:05 p.m.

Aberdeen starter Luis Perez (1-0) pitched five innings for the win, allowing two hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Brandon Bonilla worked two innings, giving up a hit and walk. He struck out three. Zach Matson also pitched two perfect innings for his first save, striking out five.

Offensively, Aberdeen scored single runs in the first and second innings. Adam Hall opened the game with a single and later scored on a JC Escarra single.

In the second, Robbie Thorburn was hit by pitch and he was driven home by a Alexis Torres double.

Escarra was the lone Aberdeen batter with two hits. Doran Turchin also had a hit, a double.
