More than 100 children and parents gathered April 18 at St. James’ Nursery School, in Mount Airy, for Science Fair Night, during the Week of the Young Child. The staff of St. James, led by pre-K teacher Laura Horn, presented a variety of science experiences. Children were involved in building a catapult, creating slime, watching a volcano erupt, observing and hypothesizing about the diffusion of colors using shaving cream and skittles, planting a seed, exploring magnets and measuring, Pop Rock Science, and learning how chemical reactions can make an old, dirty penny shine again.
