Kevin L. Dougherty, a retired salesman and sports fan, died June 16 of a heart attack while vacationing in San Diego. The former Towson resident was 65.

Born in Baltimore and raised on Susquehanna Avenue in Towson, Kevin Lawrence Dougherty was the son of William L. Dougherty, a handyman, and Patricia A. Dougherty, a homemaker.

A Towson High School graduate, Mr. Dougherty was a sales representative for sprinkler system companies for 35 years before retiring in 2010. He then worked part-time as a driver for Pivot Physical Therapy.

Since 2008, he had lived in Ocean Pines. He was an avid reader and sports fan whose favorite teams were the Orioles and Ravens, family members said.

“He was a great storyteller, and a favorite quote of his was ‘What’s not to like?’ ” said a daughter, Kimberly Dougherty Walsh of Havertown, Pa.

He also enjoyed golfing with longtime friends.

Mr. Dougherty was a member of Post 22 of the Sons of the American Legion in Towson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Legion, 125 York Road, Towson.

In addition to his daughter, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Deborah Brown; a son, Kevin “Todd” Dougherty of Stoneleigh; two brothers, Dana Dougherty of Towson and Brian Dougherty of Timonium; four sisters, Melissa Dean of Cockeysville, Joanne Glaeser of Towson, Donna Gussio of Fallston and Melanie Flynn of San Diego; and two grandchildren.
