Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation will continue its Classic Five Golf Tournament Series next Saturday with the Baltimore Match Play Championship. The Baltimore Match Play Championship will be conducted through July 15. A qualifier will be held at Clifton Park Golf Course next Saturday, with the low 31 players moving on to the match play portion. The qualifying round will determine the player’s position within the field. Following the qualifying round, rounds one and two will be played at Clifton Park Golf Course on July 8. Rounds three and four will be played at Mount Pleasant Golf Course on July 14. The finals will be held at Mount Pleasant Golf Course on July 15. The field for the qualifier will be limited to 132 eligible amateur golfers. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday. The entry fee is $90 per person, which includes greens fees and a cart for the entire event. Junior golf title: Lou Baker, 17, a St. Paul’s senior from Timonium and Baltimore Country Club, won the 97th Junior Amateur championship of the Maryland State Golf Association with a record-smashing 36-hole total of 135 at the Elkridge Club. Marshall Meisel, from the Chevy Chase Club, finished second, helped by a record-tying single-round total of 66 for a two-round total of 137.

Delle Donne hits 3-pointer to lift Mystics on Thursday
Elena Delle Donne hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the host Washington Mystics an 80-77 victory over the New York Liberty on Thursday night. After LaToya Sanders hit two free throws to give Washington (10-5) a 77-75 lead with 17.1 seconds to play, Tina Charles banked in a short turnaround jumper to tie it about 10 seconds later. Maryland alumna Kristi Toliver‘s 3-point attempt was blocked by New York’s Sugar Rodgers as time appeared to expire, but 0.6 of a second was put on the clock after video review, and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt found Delle Donne with the inbound pass for the winner. Delle Donne led Washington with 22 points, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (Maryland) had 12, and Toliver 10. The Mystics have won four in a row. New York is 4-10.

UMBC’s Lyles joins Jazz ‘s Summer League team
The Utah Jazz added former UMBC men’s basketball guard Jairus Lyles to their NBA Summer League team. Lyles is the first Retriever to compete on a team in the 12 years that the NBA has sponsored summer play. Lyles led UMBC to the 2017-18 America East Conference title, scoring 27 points, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat Vermont, 65-62. Six days later, he made nine of 11 field-goal tries and scored 28 points as the Retrievers became the first men’s No. 16 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed in a 74-54 NCAA tournament win over Virginia.
Bowling: The 45th anual National Duckpin Youth Championships will be held today at 10 a.m, at Bowlmor AMF Dundalk. Twenty-four teams of four bowlers each in four age divisions will bowl three games to determine the champions. Participating teams, which won state and regional qualifying tournaments in the spring, are from Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Virginia. In addition to team and individual honors, four $500 scholarships are awarded at the tournament. In the Baltimore area, the eight teams participating are from Glen Burnie, AMF Dundalk and Parkville Lanes.
Women’s college volleyball: Hailey Rubino, an outside hitter from Leesburg, Va., has transferred to Maryland and will be eligible to play for the Terps this season. Rubino spent last season at New Mexico, where she started in all 28 matches she played in, finishing fourth on the team in kills (178) and digs (216).
Minor league baseball: Left-hander Zach Matson was promoted from Short-A Aberdeen to High-A Frederick.
Women’s pro soccer: The Washington Spirit has signed midfielder Maddie Huster. Huster, a rookie from Wake Forest University, was a third-round selection in the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League College Draft by Washington. She previously made the NWSL roster as a National Team Replacement Player during the FIFA window earlier this month.
