Baltimore Sun’s high school Athletes of the Week (April 18-24): Towson’s Chase Supensky and Century’s Hannah Zabik

UPDATED:

Each week, The Baltimore Sun will recognize one high school player from a boys sport and one from a girls sport for their athletic achievements.

Boys sport Athlete of the Week: Chase Supensky, Towson, baseball

The senior left-hander continued his masterful season on the mound with a stellar performance in the Generals’ 3-0 win over Baltimore County rival Dulaney on Wednesday. Supensky, in his third varsity season, pitched a complete game, scattering four singles while striking out six and walking two. It was the key win in a 3-0 week for the Generals, who go into this week with 8-1 overall with a 5-1 mark in Baltimore County Division A play.

On the season, Supensky is 5-0 with a 0.45 ERA. In 31 innings, he has 42 strikeouts with six walks.  Batting second in the Generals’ lineup, the Wilson College commit has a .250 average with seven runs, six RBIs and three sacrifice bunts.

Girls sport Athlete of the Week: Hannah Zabik, Century, softball

In leading the Knights (8-5) to four Carroll County wins last week — putting them in first place with a 7-1 league mark — the standout senior pitcher dominated on the mound and consistently produced at the plate as well. For the week, Zabik went 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 21 innings, striking out 26 batters. Offensively, she batted .640 (9-for-14) with eight RBIs, eight runs and two stolen bases. On Thursday, in an 11-5 win over Westminster, she had two hits and two RBIs while getting the win. In Friday’s 4-2 win over Francis Scott Key, she went the distance with 11 strikeouts.

On varsity since her freshman year, the Averett University commit is 6-1 this season with a 1.87 ERA and is batting .486 with 17 RBIs.
