Dalton Jeffers, 23, of Mount Airy, was named a national gold medallion winner by the National Taxidermy Association for his short-haired, open mouth, whitetail deer pulling an apple out of a tree. In early August, he'll be shooting for a world title at the World Taxidermy & Fish Carving Championships in Coralville, Iowa.

Howard County police are investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead in Woodstock, according to a news release. At about 8:43 a.m., a 2017 Toyota Corolla traveling north in the 10500 block of Dorchester Way struck an adult man who was standing next to a parked landscaping vehicle. The man was pronounced dead after being transported to Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, according to the news release. The vehicle’s driver remained on the scene. The investigation into the collision’s cause is ongoing, according to the news release. This story will be updated as more details become available.
