Ewan McGregor is making his directorial debut with Roth’s classic, powerful novel about a man whose American dream is shattered when his daughter commits an act of political terrorism (and a lot of other things).  Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Connelly star alongside McGregor, and the film should be released sometime this year.

Fox’s adaptation of Martin’s gripping story, about a man and woman stranded on a mountain after a plane crash, has hit some stumbling blocks during its development. Charlie Hunnam and Rosamund Pike were attached to star, but both actors dropped out. Syfy first announced it would adapt 3001, the final book in Clarke’s Space Odyssey series, into a miniseries sometime in 2014, and it remains in development there. At the time of the announcement, Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker were set to executive produce, and Stuart Beattie was on board to write.

Late last year the BBC announced it would be bringing His Dark Materials to life in an eight-part series from New Line Cinema and the production company Bad Wolf, which was formed by two of the executives responsible for bringing Doctor Who back on the air.
