BASF inaugurates new plant for alkyl ethanolamines at its Antwerp Verbund site

BASF has inaugurated a new world-scale production plant for alkyl ethanolamines at its Verbund site in Antwerp, Belgium. This new investment will increase the company’s global annual production capacity for alkyl ethanolamines, including dimethyl ethanolamine (DMEOA) and methyl diethanolamine (MDEOA), by nearly 30 percent to over 140,000 tons per year. The new plant is an important part of the BASF production network for this portfolio at the company’s sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany; Antwerp, Belgium; Geismar, Louisiana; and Nanjing, China.
The first results of BASF’s multi-year Global Carbon Field Trials revealed that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to mitigate agriculture’s contribution to climate change. Instead, reducing emissions requires a tailored combination of interventions, products, and technologies. The picture shows a BASF trial field for rice Piedmont, Italy.

BASF demonstrates pathways to lower emissions in agriculture, shared in first results from Global Carbon Field Trials

In a recently published report, BASF has shared the first results from its multi-year Global Carbon Field Trials. The results demonstrate that a reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in agriculture of up to 30 percent is possible compared to standard farming approaches – a target to which the company committed in 2020 to help farmers reduce their GHG emissions per ton of crop produced. The emissions reduction requires tailored climate smart approaches and varies by specific crop and region.

Recyclability of polyamides extended in the 2024 minimum standard for packaging

On 29 August 2024, the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (Central Agency Packaging Register – ZSVR) published the new minimum standard for recycling-friendly packaging. It now also recognizes barrier films that include not only polyethylene (PE) and polyamide (PA) but also ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) for high oxygen barrier as recyclable. These film structures are commonly used for sausage, cheese and meat packaging. For the first time, adhesive-laminated PE/PA film structures are now also recognized as recyclable in the minimum standard
