A new hope? With talks stalling, Matthijs de Ligt could join teammates at Bayern Munich for preseason

Will Matthijs de Ligt end up staying at Bayern Munich?

Just a few days ago, it seemed like Bayern Munich center-back Matthijs de Ligt was well on his way to Manchester United.

Not so fast my friend.

Things appear to have slowed down between the two clubs per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg:

Matthijs de Ligt remains a candidate for Manchester United but the negotiations with FC Bayern are currently on hold!

ManUtd still not willing to pay €50m + add-ons. Bayern will not lower their demands.

De Ligt aware of these facts and on vacation. He is supposed to rejoin Bayern’s training on August 2nd and is ready for it. No deal with Tah as long as De Ligt is not sold.

According to James Ducker of The Telegraph (as captured by @iMiaSanMia),

Manchester United have a clear price in their minds for Matthijs de Ligt and will not pursue a deal for the Netherlands defender if Bayern’s demands fall outside that.

While this might give some fans hope, this is not necessarily a guarantee that the Dutchman will stay put. Manchester United’s pursuit of Leny Yoro has pushed its desire for De Ligt to the backburner. Financially, the Red Devils do not have the pressure to secure a starting-caliber center-back and are likely less inclined to meet Bayern Munich’s demands.
