UPDATED:

Class 4A’s top-ranked squad, Broomfield, maintained the type of dominance fans have become accustomed to seeing from the Eagles. 3A’s No. 1 squad, Holy Family, fell to another top-five team in a battle.

Local squads went 5-10 during Week Two as Broomfield, Fairview, Mead and Centaurus kept their unbeaten streaks alive.

Thursday

Bear Creek 35, Skyline 34: The Bears and Falcons (0-2) needed overtime to decide this one, and a failed PAT ultimately handed the Bears their victory. Junior quarterback Servando Morales threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns, then ran for two more.

The Falcons head to Frederick next Friday.

Friday

Broomfield 46, Monarch 0: 4A’s No. 1 team slow-rolled the first half against the Coyotes before breaking out into a scoring inferno in the second. C.T. Worley, Darien Jackson and Colin Torres each recorded two touchdowns to propel the Eagles to a 2-0 record while the Coyotes fell to 2-1.

Broomfield will head to Rocky Mountain on Thursday, and Monarch will face off with Centaurus on Friday.

Boulder 28, Silver Creek 14: The Panthers found every which way to score against the Raptors, punching in their first three scores with a long pass, a long run and a fumble recovery in the end zone. Boulder logged its first win of the season (1-1) while Silver Creek fell to the same record.

The Raptors will host Longmont on Friday as Boulder takes on Fairview that same night.

Roosevelt 38, Holy Family 21: Senior quarterback Monte Samaras had a hand in all three scores for the top-ranked Tigers (1-1), throwing for two and running another 80 yards for another. The No. 4 Roughriders shut them down in the second half, outscoring them 21-7.

The Tigers will take a bye week to iron out the wrinkles before heading to Lewis Palmer on Sept. 20.

Fairview 35, Arvada West 30: The Knights outpaced the Wildcats in all but the second quarter, utilizing a sort of slow-roll-to-victory approach. They managed to outwit an Arvada West offense that boasted a strong passing game and run game, and improved to 2-0 in the process.

They’ll face off with cross-town rival Boulder on Friday.

Mead 16, Frederick 14: The Mavericks relied on an unforgiving defensive line to take down the Golden Eagles and their quarterback, Gavin Ishmael, who suffered multiple sacks throughout the night. They won this round by shutting the Golden Eagles out in a pivotal second half.

Seventh-ranked Mead (2-0) will hit the road to Greeley West in two weeks while Frederick (0-2) hosts Skyline next Friday.

Mountain Vista 55, Erie 12: No. 2 Mountain Vista continued to assert its dominance in Colorado football, handing the Tigers their second loss (1-2) of the season in quite the barnburner. Erie will look to right the ship in two weeks when it hosts Fort Collins.

Centaurus 49, Niwot 7: Centaurus sophomore quarterback Halas Wise exploded for 416 passing yards and three touchdowns, rivaled only by sophomore wide receiver Jax Lewis and his three scores and 170 offensive yards. A late mishap by the Warriors (3-0) allowed the Cougars (0-2) to score on a several-inch run from sophomore QB Jaydan Martinez.

Centaurus hosts Monarch next Friday at the same time that Niwot will welcome Skyview.

Rocky Mountain 24, Legacy 18: The two squads only needed the first two quarters to reach their final conclusion. Legacy sophomore QB Andrew Gardner threw for and a touchdown, but was marred by three interceptions. Senior Tyler Anderson controlled the run game with 149 yards and a score.

The Lightning (0-2) host Grandview next Thursday.

Byers 68, Lyons 12: The Bulldogs beat up on the Lions (0-2) early and often, netting 50 points in the first quarter alone before eventually punching them out with a monster score. The Lions will look to secure their first victory at home against Vail Christian on Friday night.

Manitou Springs 41, Prospect Ridge Academy 6: The Miners still haven’t found the right recipe to pull off a win this season (0-2), and the Mustangs’ highlight-reel offense didn’t help. Manitou Springs touched the scoreboard in each quarter while keeping the Miners scoreless until the final frame.

PRA heads to Jefferson on Thursday.
