Despite the fact that he hasn’t played since April 20, Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has earned an invite to Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas.

As a media member.

Casas is traveling to Texas this week to work with MLB’s digital media wing, with whom he will help provide coverage of the All-Star Festivities. According to Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe, Casas will co-host the Home Run Derby on MLB and ESPN’s TikTok channels, and he is also expected to offer commentary and conduct interviews during the competition.

“That will be fun,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora. “I think since his first day in the big leagues until now people see him different, he’s not this guy that’s doing things differently, he’s a good guy who is very likable, has a great sense of humor, knows the game and it seems like people like him in the networks.”

Always regarded as a unique character, Casas has seen his profile rise despite his current injury thanks to some memorable TV appearances, including an in-game interview on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and a post-game interview he conducted on NESN where he filled in for Jahmai Webster following a recent win.

Casas is also nearing a return to on-field action as well nearly three months after suffering a torn cartilage in his rib cage. Cora said Sunday he’s playing soft toss at 70% effort and once back from Dallas will likely work out in either Worcester or at Boston College.

Why one of those places? Fenway Park is scheduled to host several concerts over the upcoming week, including shows by Noah Kahan, Kane Brown, Foo Fighters and Blink-182.
