Brewers Minor League Roundup: Week 15

Brewers affiliates have solid holiday week, with Biloxi now in first place in the Southern League South

Each week, I’ll be bringing you a roundup of the Brewers minor league affiliates, including score updates, key players, and more. Here is the week 15 roundup.

Triple-A Nashville

The Sounds finished the holiday week with a 3-3 series split against the Memphis Redbirds (45-42 overall;7-5 second half), winning two of three on the road before dropping two of three at home. Nashville is now 44-43 overall, with a 6-6 second-half record.

Tyler Black had a big week in his return to Nashville, hitting .400/.556/.600 with a homer, five RBIs, and eight hits. Brewer Hicklen hit a trio of homers, slashing .320/.393/.720 with eight hits himself, and Joey Wiemer had a solid week, picking up seven hits, including a homer, across 21 at-bats. As a team, the Sounds hit .264/.367/.431 with seven homers and 32 runs scored.

Evan McKendry made a pair of strong starts for Nashville, allowing two runs across 10 ⅔ innings with nine strikeouts, earning the win in both games. Chad Patrick allowed one run across 5 ⅔ innings in his start, striking out six. DL Hall had a tough-luck start as he finishes his rehab assignment, allowing three unearned runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts over three innings. The Sounds pitching staff finished the week with a 3.83 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 56 ⅓ innings.

The Sounds stay home to take on the Iowa Cubs (40-47 overall; 7-5 second half). This is the first and only time Nashville plays Iowa this season.

Double-A Biloxi

The Shuckers had a strong set with the Mississippi Braves (36-44 overall; 5-7 second half), winning two of three at home before winning all three on the road to improve to 8-4 in the second half and 38-41 overall this season. Biloxi now sits two games ahead of Pensacola for the Southern League South second-half lead.

Lamar Sparks had a huge week offensively, picking up 12 hits, including a homer and five RBIs, across 25 at-bats for a .480/.480/.760 line. Eric Brown Jr. also had six hits and six RBIs, slashing .286/.407/.381. As a team, the Shuckers hit .271/.373/.394 with four homers and 38 runs scored on the week.

Jacob Misiorowski had another solid start this week, striking out 10 and allowing just one run on two hits and two walks over 6 ⅓ innings. Bradley Blalock also had a strong start, allowing just one hit and no runs with five strikeouts over seven innings in a win. Logan Henderson stayed hot, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts across four innings. The pitching staff finished the week with a 2.67 ERA, striking out 56 batters in 54 innings.

Biloxi stays on the road as they head to Chattanooga to take on the Lookouts (23-58 overall; 3-9 second half). Biloxi won five of six against Chattanooga back in April.

High-A Wisconsin

The Timber Rattlers took four of six against the Beloit Sky Carp (36-42 overall; 6-9 overall), winning two of three on the road and two of three at home to finish out the week. Wisconsin is now 9-6 in the second half and 51-30 overall.

Luke Adams and Jadher Areinamo each hit a pair of homers this week, with Areinamo also leading the team with eight hits. Gregory Barrios had seven hits in just nine at-bats, also swiping three bases. Luis Lara hit his first homer of the season, slashing .280/.333/.480 with seven hits, four RBIs, and five runs scored. As a team, Wisconsin hit .253/.342/.371 with six homers and 32 runs scored.

K.C. Hunt had another strong start for Wisconsin, allowing just one hit and two walks with 10 strikeouts over 5 ⅓ scoreless frames. Brian Fitzpatrick went five scoreless himself, striking out seven and allowing just three hits and a walk. Joe Ross also had a solid rehab start, allowing one unearned run on three hits with a strikeout over 2 ⅔ innings. As a staff, the Rattlers finished the week with a solid 2.77 ERA, striking out a league-high 71 in 52 innings.

The Rattlers stay home to take on the West Michigan Whitecaps (41-40 overall; 10-5 second half). Wisconsin went 4-2 against the Whitecaps in mid-June.

Single-A Carolina

The Mudcats went 1-2 on the road before splitting two games at home against the Down East Wood Ducks (41-38 overall; 6-8 second half), with Saturday’s series finale canceled due to rain. Carolina is now 48-31 overall and 7-7 in the second half.

Reece Walling had the team’s only homer this week, also leading the squad with six hits as he slashed .353/.500/.647 with a pair of doubles and five walks. Yhoswar Garcia hit .357/.400/.429 with two RBIs, and Yophery Rodriguez hit .316/.316/.474 with six hits, including three doubles. As a team, the Mudcats hit .216/.311/.317 with one homer and 16 runs scored.

Jesus Rivero went four scoreless innings with six strikeouts in his start this week. No other starters had standout performances, though Jeison Pena went 4 ⅓ scoreless innings and Dikember Sanchez went five scoreless innings in relief this week, with Pena striking out four and Sanchez striking out five. As a pitching staff, the Mudcats had a 4.50 ERA, striking out 56 batters in 46 innings.

The Mudcats now head to Fredericksburg, where they’ll take on the Nationals (47-34 overall; 12-3 second half). The two teams split six games in Carolina last month.
