TJ Warren Mid-Range Game

TJ Warren is am excellent finisher around the rim, but his mid-range game, while not as good, isn't bad either.

First, this is Warren’s shot chart. Note that he has a 70.0% FG average around the rim – well above the league average of 60.9% (hence the deep red color for the bubble around the rim in the image).

Now, let’s look at Tyson Chandler’s shot chart. Chandler is the Phoenix Suns’ center. Chandler and Warren shoot just about the same percentage around the rim, despite Warren being 6’8″ and Chandler being a 7-footer.

But wait! Look at LA Clipper’s center DeAndre Jordan’s shot chart. Jordan, perhaps the most athletic big man in the game, made 74.3% of his shots around the rim – just 4.4% more than Warren!

But in addition to that, Warren is also above average in making short-range to mid-range shots. In the lane, he made 45.6% of his shots, versus the NBA average of 41.8%). Outside the lane, he shoots 40.9%, which is right at the NBA average.

The key to his mid-range game is his pull-up jumper, which he can make coming off screens, or from one-on-one moves. He is effective in and around the foul-lane, and but can also hit from the baseline, all the while showing a preference for shooting from the right side of the basket. And he also has a reliable floater.

Here's a video that highlights his mid-range shooting. Enjoy!: Warren at mid-range
