Game Recap: Jalen Bridges lights downtown up in 87-77 loss to Kings

With Ryan Dunn sidelined, Bridges closed out his Summer League with a nice display from deep.

The Phoenix Suns ended their Summer League stint on Saturday afternoon, losing by 10 points to the Sacramento Kings, 87-77. It was a close game throughout, but Sac Twon outscored Phoenix 26-18 in the final quarter to hand the Suns their third loss of the summer. Their final record in Las Vegas? 2-3.

Phoenix would be without first round pick Ryan Dunn, who sat with left knee soreness. We have seen enough this summer to know that Dunn will have an impact on the team come the start of the NBA regular season. He’s played tenaciously off-ball, and while he ends up shooting just 7.7% from deep (yikes!), his defense was something to watch. I’m workshopping his nickname, and I like “Shark”.

It was Jalen Bridges who lit up the scoreboard for the Suns, leading the team with 16 points and doing so on 4-of-12 shooting (4-of-11 from the field). There is plenty of development that needs to occur with Bridges, but he certainly has that three-ball down. There is a place on a roster in the NBA for him, and thankfully that is with the Suns to start his career.

Isaiah Wong has been impressive in the Summer League, entering the game averaging 11.3 points on 69.6% shooting from the field. He doesn’t shoot the three-ball, but his floater is effective and he impressively manipulates the defense.

Wong once again was a star off the bench, scoring 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He will find himself on a G League roster for sure, especially if the tape used in Vegas is a decisive factor.

Oso Ighodaro once again impressed, primarily with his passing skills. We knew that he had a high basketball IQ, and he showcased it once again on Saturday afternoon. He led all players with 9 total assists, adding 4 points and 5 rebounds to his stat line in 26 minutes played.

The Suns could not keep up from behind the line in the game, hitting 27.8% of their super shots, nor could they cover the Kings’ Boogie Ellis. He had 17 points off of the bench. Phoenix also mirrored their big league club, turning the ball over 16 times.

The bow is wrapped up on the Summer Suns. Did you like what you saw?
