Here's Why Stevie Nicks Was Moved To Tears By Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Surprise Songs

In addition to singing her praises, Taylor performed "You're on Your Own, Kid," in honor of Stevie, who'd previously shared that the song had helped her grieve the loss of her Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Christine McVie.

This weekend, Taylor Swift brought her record-breaking Eras Tour to Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, for an unforgettable three-day run.

Taylor's last handful of Eras Tour stops have boasted a particularly star-studded VIP guest list, and yesterday was no exception. None other than the icon herself, Stevie Nicks, was in attendance.

For some context, Taylor and Stevie have been friends for some time. Stevie has mentioned her friendship with Taylor in several interviews, and the pair performed together at the 2010 Grammys. Stevie even wrote an introductory poem for Taylor's latest album — The Tortured Poets Department — which was included in physical copies of it.

Yesterday, during the acoustic section of her Eras Tour set, Taylor introduced her first "surprise song" of the night by praising Stevie, saying, "A friend of mine is here...who has really been one of the reasons why I — or any female artist — get to do what we do."

"She's paved the way for us and she's mentored so many artists that...you don't even know, you don't even know she's doing it. She's become friends with so many female artists just to be a guiding hand. I can't tell you how rare that is."

"She's a hero of mine and also someone that I could tell her any secret, and she'd never tell anybody. She's really helped me through so much over the years. I'm talking about Stevie Nicks."

Taylor followed the speech by playing a mashup of "Clara Bow" — a song off of The Tortured Poets Department that references Stevie herself — and "The Lucky One" off of Red (Taylor's Version).

She then followed the guitar mashup with "You're on Your Own, Kid" from Midnights. Fans near the VIP tent at the Eras Tour stop reported that the performance brought Stevie to tears. During one of her own concerts last May, Stevie thanked Taylor for writing the song, explaining that it helped her grieve the loss of her longtime friend and Fleetwood Mac bandmate, Christine McVie, who passed away in November of 2022.

"Thank you to Taylor Swift for doing this thing for me, and that is writing a song called ‘You’re on Your Own, Kid,’" she said. "That is the sadness of how I feel. As long as Chris was, even on the other side of the world, we didn’t have to talk on the phone. We really weren't phone buddies. We'd go back to Fleetwood Mac, and we'd walk in, and it'd be like, 'Hey, little sister, how are you?' It was like never a minute had passed. Never an argument in our entire 47 years. Never."

"So, when it was the two of us, the two of us were 'on our own, kids.' We always were. And now, I'm having to learn to be 'on my own, kid' by myself. So, you helped me to do that. Thank you."
