I'm just gonna cut to the chase, folks: I love me a good "trashy" movie.
I don't really care about the reviews they get on Rotten Tomatoes, or whether they're Oscar-worthy: if it's funny, makes me feel all kinds of joy, or another emotion I can't think of ATM, then I lovvvvve it!
But when it comes to "bad" movies, folks have some pretty strong opinions. So, I want to know where *you* stand on these "trashy" movies. Ready, set, go!
1.Showgirls (1995)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 23%, but people who love it say: "I just couldn't look away. I kept waiting for Elizabeth Berkley to start singing: 'I'm so excited! I'm so excited!'"
2.Ride Along (2014)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 18%, but people who love it say: "Ride Along has such a low score on Rotten Tomatoes, but I really enjoy the dynamic between Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. They're the epitome of opposites attract with their characters."
3.Spice World (1997)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 35%, but people who love it say: "SPICE WORLD, OMMMGGG. A masterpiece, if there ever was one. 'It must be so hard for you, Victoria. I mean, having to decide whether to wear the little Gucci dress, the little Gucci dress, or...the little Gucci dress!'"
4.Monster-in-Law (2005)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 18%, but people who love it say: "I don't know why this has such a low score on Rotten Tomatoes because it's one of the funniest movies ever. Wanda Sykes and Jane Fonda are a killer comedic duo, especially during the dinner party scene — I wish they'd do 50 more movies together!"
5.Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 19%, but people who love it say: "It was a great movie with fantastic singers (Lauryn Hill, hello???) and was arguably even more entertaining than the first one. Critics are dumb."
6.But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 42%, but people who love it say: "It's with Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, and RuPaul! It was the satirical queer comedy we all deserved and it was soooo funny while also always reminding me what it felt like to be a young gay. Also, this movie is the reason I have a HUGE crush on Clea DuVall."
7.Last Holiday (2006)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 55%, but people who love it say: "The adventure of a woman who knows her worth and learns not to let anyone else hold her back? It's a classic."
8.Sex and the City 2 (2010)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 16%, but people who love it say: "It has poor writing and flat acting, but an amazing fashion style above all."
9.Glitter (2001)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 6%, but people who love it say: "I love the music and the storyline, and I've never really understood why it gets such a bad rap."
10.The House Bunny (2008)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 43%, but people who love it say: "The House Bunny is soooo good! It has an amazing cast, and everyone is so hilarious in it!"
11.Mamma Mia! (2008)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 55%, but people who love it say: "Mamma Mia! is really fun, and Meryl Streep is just amazing in it. The songs are so good and it's just the best movie!"
12.View from the Top (2003)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 14%, but people who love it say: "Gwyneth Paltrow plays a small-town girl with dreams of becoming a flight attendant. It's super trope-y and predictable, but it's so cute, light-hearted, and uplifting. It's a really great movie for that lazy Saturday you get killer cramps and you just sit on the couch all day long."
13.Surf Ninjas (1993)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 11%, but people who love it say: "When I was a kid, Surf Ninjas with Ernie Reyes, Tone Loc, and Leslie Nielsen was one of my favorites. I watched it again a few years ago and I still love it. It's painfully '90s, Rob Schneider was a red-headed gem, and the ancient CGI adds a whole comedic element."
14.How to Be Single (2016)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 46%, but people who love it say: "I laugh and cry through this movie, and it shows there's not a 'right answer' to live your life as a woman."
15.From Justin to Kelly (2003)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 8%, but people who love it say: "The writing is obviously awful, but the early '00s nostalgia, the catchy songs, and Kelly Clarkson's voice always make it worth the watch for me."
16.And finally: The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004)
This movie only has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 26%, but people who love it say: "The cheese factor is SO HIGH, but they lean into it, which makes it work. Also, Julie Andrews singing again just makes me cry."
