TNA adds love story to Against All Odds card

Against All Odds has several angles for potential big moments, such as Matt Hardy challenging for the TNA World Championship, Jordynne Grace issuing an open challenge for the Knockouts title, and the Nemeth brothers competing for tag team gold. The one aspect I’m most curious about is the love story between PCO and Steph De Lander.

When SDL turned on the sexual charm in an effort to prevent being chokeslammed by the French-Canadian Frankenstein, urges awoke from deep within PCO’s loins, and I guess his heart too. The monster bean courting the Aussie with a black rose and a love letter. SDL was creeped out at first, but she didn’t decline his advances. Xia Brookside thought the attention was cute, and she convinced SDL to think it over before rashly saying no.

As SDL was ruminating over the possibilities, AJ Francis arrogantly took the black rose thinking she was a groupie for First Class. PCO noticed this deed, so he followed Top Dolla on stage.

As Francis flapped his gums with the TNA Digital Media Championship, the lights went out with PCO was there to take back the black rose. Fisticuffs flew with PCO, Francis, and Rich Swann. PCO was more interested in retrieving the black rose than fighting. Security had to separate the skirmish as PCO picked up the flower.

That scene conveniently set up a match for Against All Odds with PCO wrestling Swann. More importantly, SDL will give her answer to PCO. The monster is against all odds in more ways than one. He is outnumbered by First Class, and he is looking to find love.

The full card for Against All Odds currently includes:

  • TNA World Championship: Moose (c) vs. Matt Hardy in Broken Rules (No DQ)
  • Knockouts Championship: Jordynne Grace (c) open challenge to the world
  • TNA World Tag Team Championship: Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards (c) vs. Nemeth Boyz
  • X-Division Championship: Mustafa Ali (c) vs. Trent Seven
  • PCO vs. Rich Swann
  • Mike Santana & Steve Maclin vs. The Rascalz
  • Josh Alexander & Eric Young vs. Ace Austin & Chris Bey
  • Joe Hendry vs. Frankie Kazarian
  • Knockouts Tag Team Championship: Alisha Edwards & Masha Slamovich (c) vs. Allysin Kay & Marti Belle (pre-show)
  • Sami Callihan vs. Jonathan Gresham (pre-show)

Matt Hardy was granted a world title shot, so Moose tried to break his neck. What is already broken can not be broken, so Broken Matt invited the System to meet his family at the Hardy compound. Insanity ensued in the broken universe, and Moose emerged from the lake of reincarnation from his NFL days. Hardy wants Moose at his best in order to delete him. Delete! Delete! Delete!

Jordynne Grace ventured through the prohibited portal into NXT and failed to win the title from Roxanne Perez. The Juggernaut appreciated the opportunity, so she is returning the favor for an open challenge to the indies, TNA, WWE, MLW, NWA, Stardom, AAA, and beyond.

When Ryan Nemeth and Matt Hardy defeated the System in tag team action, that earned them a shot at gold. Hardy preferred challenging Moose, so Nic Nemeth stepped in to be his brother’s partner. The Nemeth Boyz had never teamed together in the ring. Their first match was a tough challenge against ABC, and they passed with victory. Next stop is the tag titles.

Trent Seven defeated “Speedball” Mike Bailey to earn the #1 contender spot in the X-Division, but it wasn’t without controversy. Campaign Singh interfered on Bailey without Seven knowing, which led to the victory. Singh was allegedly operating on the behalf of Ali, and now talk is brewing that Ali is afraid of losing his title to Speedball.

Mike Santana made his surprise return to TNA and defeated Steve Maclin in the process. Maclin wanted payback on Santana, however, he burned bridges with the Rascalz as part of a different story. That led to attacks back and forth. When Maclin wrestled Santana in the rematch, the Rascalz ruined the contest for both men. Maclin convinced Santana to join forces for one time only to take out the trash, then they can get back to their private feud.

Josh Alexander returns from minor injury, and he’s being thrown into a match with other stars who had nothing else cooking. Both teams are babyfaces, but Alexander and Eric Young receive the bigger reaction. ABC are going through tough times struggling to win as a tag team. Signs point to tension boiling over eventually between Ace Austin and Chris Bey, so it could happen here.

Joe Hendry has his eye on breaking the glass ceiling, and he hired help in the form of Ace Steel, who has experience training CM Punk to be the best in the world. Frankie Kazarian mouthed off, so the match was made. It will be the first in this new partnership between Hendry and Steel.

As the System were off to visit the Hardy compound, the Hex tried to drive a wedge into trust between Masha Slamovich and Alisha Edwards. That led to a match between Slamovich and Marti Belle. Allysin Kay was ringside, but Alisha was not. Kay helped cheat by adding leverage for Belle to win on a roll-up. Pin a champ, earn a title shot.

Even though Jonathan Gresham previously defeated Sami Callihan through questionable means, the Death Machine was prepared for the black ink spot. He blocked the liquid with his hand, however, contact still led to an infection. Callihan wants another round to turn the Octopus into sushi. The question is how much the ink will affect Callihan, since his character is already on the dirty side of hygiene.

Prediction time! Even though I don’t see any of the champs losing, Hardy is too big of a star to count out completely. If I had to pick one title change, I’d lean toward the Nemeth Boyz winning tag team gold. I’m favoring PCO, Santana & Maclin, Alexander & Young, and Hendry to win as well, but that feels too predictable for the whole card. Swann and Kazarian will probably cheat to win, which would extend the love story for PCO and the Steel story for Hendry. The one toss-up is Callihan versus Gresham. Callihan could get his win back, but Gresham might infect him with black ink to really boost the effectiveness of his new super power.

Against All Odds airs Friday, June 14 at 8 pm ET. The show will stream live on on TNA+ and Triller TV.
