Paterson police said they took Junior Nunez, 33, into custody Friday morning, hours after the Amber Alert was issued.

Late Thursday night, police said officers responded to an incident in the area of Piercy Street and Holsman Street in Paterson.

Officers said they were told a 34-year-old woman and her child were carjacked and kidnapped at gunpoint.

Nunez was identified as the suspect and eventually arrested without incident, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said.

The child and his mother were found "in good health," officials said.

In addition to kidnapping, charges against Nunez include carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child, among others.

CBS New York learned the vehicle police were looking for was seen entering New York City, but officials did not say where Nunez was arrested.
