CHICAGO (CBS) -- Veteran winger Nick Foligno was named the 35th captain in Chicago Blackhawks history on Wednesday.

Foligno's three kids were in on the surprise as they delivered his new captain jersey.

Foligno is the first Blackhawk to wear the "C" on his shoulder after legendary captain Jonathan Toews led the locker room from 2008 until 2023.

Foligno was acquired from the Boston Bruins on a trade in June of last year. He is entering his 18th NHL season.

The 6-foot, 210-pounds forward is a native of Buffalo, New York. He played 16 seasons with the Ottawa Senators (2007-12), Columbus Blue Jackets (2012-21), Toronto Maple Leafs (2021), and Bruins (2021-23).

Foligno and his father, Mike Foligno, join only Blackhawks legend Bobby Hull and his son Brett as the only father-son duos who have each played 1,000 regular-season NHL games, the Blackhawks said.
