PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A Churchill Borough Police Department officer fatally shot an armed man in Forest Hills on Thursday, authorities said.

The Allegheny County Police Department said in a news release that officials were notified of a "disturbance" in the 200 block of Glasgow Road around 9:30 p.m.

Police said multiple departments responded to the scene. When officers arrived, the news release said they "heard a firearm being chambered and a shot fired." County police said officers saw a 48-year-old man armed with a firearm and a Churchill officer shot the man in the torso.

The injured man, later identified as 48-year-old Gregg Carlson, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, authorities said. On Friday morning, county police said Carlson died at the hospital.

It was not immediately clear if Carlson pointed his firearm at law enforcement or why he fired a shot. No officers were injured, police said.

The officer who fatally shot the man has not been identified.

Forest Hills residents have questions after deadly police shooting

People who live on Glasgow Road want to know what happened on Thursday night.

"We came out, heard a couple of gunshots, and then the cops started running up with their guns," resident Kristen Mehalik said.

Flashing blue lights from police vehicles are not common in the neighborhood.

"We've lived here for 30 years, no issues," Mehalik said. "This is the first time something like this has ever happened."
