Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Drawing start in series finale
LeMahieu (face) will start at first base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Rockies.
LeMahieu had been included in the initial lineup for Friday's series opener while lefty Kyle Freeland was scheduled to start for Colorado, but the Yankees scratched the veteran infielder after he was hit in the face by a baseball during pregame warmups. Fortunately for LeMahieu, he sustained only cosmetic damage to his face, as he cleared concussion protocol. LeMahieu will be back in the lineup for the series finale as a replacement for the lefty-hitting Ben Rice at first base while the Rockies go with another left-handed starter (Austin Gomber).

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Clears concussion protocol
Manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that LeMahieu's condition has improved and he's cleared concussion protocol, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
LeMahieu was scratched from the Yankees' lineup Friday after taking a ball off his face during pregame warmups, though he escaped with just bruising. He'll remain out of the lineup for Saturday's contest but should be able to return to action within the next few days.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Precautionarily scratched
LeMahieu was hit in the face by a ball during warmups and was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Rockies, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
LeMahieu appeared to be fine after the incident, but the Yankees will play it safe and give him the night off. The 35-year-old was slated to play first base and bat ninth, but both of those slots will be filled by Ben Rice instead. LeMahieu should be considered day-to-day.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Powers Yankees to win
LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a two-run double in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Phillies.
Making his first start in five games, LeMahieu would ultimately drive in all six of New York's runs in the winning effort -- he launched a grand slam off Cristopher Sanchez in the second inning to give the Yankees an early 4-0 cushion before extending the lead to 6-3 in the sixth with a two-out, RBI double off Jose Ruiz. It was a much-needed performance for LeMahieu, whose last multi-hit game came on July 9. He'd gone just 2-for-32 (.068) in his subsequent 14 contests. Despite his effort Wednesday, LeMahieu is still likely stuck on the short side of a platoon with Ben Rice at first base, with Jazz Chisholm taking over at third. LeMahieu's still slashing just .182/.270/.252 through 164 plate appearances this year with two homers, 19 RBI and 13 runs scored.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Filling short-side platoon role
LeMahieu will start at first base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
After being held out of the lineup for each of the last four games, LeMahieu will draw back into the starting nine for the series finale in Philadelphia. He'll be filling in at first base for the left-handed-hitting Ben Rice, who takes a seat while the Phillies send lefty Cristopher Sanchez to the hill. LeMahieu looks like he'll have to settle for a short-side platoon role moving forward while he's slashed just .194/.279/.255 against right-handed pitching so far this season.
